Women of Moses
“She is clothed with strength, and dignity, she laughs without fear of the future.”
Proverbs 31:25
Does this world have you down? Between family issues, finances, marital problems, and job stress, do you feel that you just can’t get a break? As mothers in today’s world there is an abundant amount of stress that the world tries to place on us.
The inspirational story of Moses is one that encapsulates and invigorates me. However it is not Moses that I’m focusing on. The focus today are the women around him that led him, supported him, and allowed God to use them to make this story happen. These women are extraordinary. When I think of Moses’ mom-the strength that women had to have. Pharaoh signed an executive order to kill all males under two. Moses’ mom as hard as this must have been, placed her son in a basket in a river and placed every ounce of faith in God because that is all she could do. Are you able to imagine the strength that that must have taken to leave her little baby with only the hope that God would keep him safe? As I think about this and I look at my own boys emotions swirl up in my heart. The woman was strong in her faith in God and allowed Him to guide her which in turn allowed her son to not only live-but to become one of the greatest leaders in this earth’s history.
I think of Pharaoh’s daughter in this story who retrieved Moses from the river. Her own father is the one who made this horrific order. Yet she had the strength and the courage to go to him and say that this is MY son. This is MY son and he will live! If she came to her father weak hearted and shy and let Pharaoh determine this baby’s fate we would not have the story of Moses. However her strong will and her courage allowed Moses to live.
Miriam, Moses sister, used her outstanding and strategic mind to make sure that Moses filled out his purpose. When Pharaoh’s daughter was looking for help for someone to raise Moses, Miriam went to get her mother and told Pharaoh’s daughter that she knows an Israelite woman to raise Moses. What a genius. This allowed Moses’ actual mother to raise him. Though it still must have been extremely difficult because she was not considered his mother, she was still able to watch her baby grow up and she played a major part in raising him. Miriam was also one of Moses’ advisors when he was older and played a huge part in freeing the Israelites from Egypts captivity.
The story of Moses, the story of the Israelites being freed, the story of some of the best events in history is because of these mothers and the intelligence, bravery, and strength that God blessed them with.
When you are facing difficulties remember that God blessed you when he created you as a woman and made you become a mother. That means that when you were born he immediately clothed you with strength and dignity and without fear. You still have on those clothes. Use them. Be strong. Be smart. Be courageous. You already are.
